PIONEER DAYS TRAVELING TRUNK ARRIVES IN ROOM 14
On Tuesday as part of their studies of California history, students in Grade 4 had the opportunity to see and hear about items used in the Santa Clara Valley from 1880 to 1920, which were collected by the Cupertino Historical Museum.
Docents; Loretta Bassman, Sonja Cook and Kay Roberts, dressed up in period costumes and held the various artifacts, talked with the students and told stories about life in Early California. The students came away with thoughts such as, "It surprised me to learn about how they invented useful things like the icebox and the series of different kinds of pens. It made me wish I was there;" "I liked the old stuff and how they told about the telephone, how only one person could use it at a time;" and "I liked the lamp they showed us; we have one like it at home."
A special thank you goes to the ladies from the museum and the Cupertino Historical Society and Museum. You can find out more at www.cupthistory.org.
ANIMAL MUSEUM
Last Tuesday, Miss Chau's second grade's classroom, Room 12, was turned into an Animal Museum and they held a special showing for invited guests.
The students spent the previous weeks researching an animal of their choice and learned about its habitat, diet, life cycle, and predators. They put all their research information together into a formal report and made clay models of their animals and painted them.
Many family members and friends showed up for the exhibition and wrote positive comments for the students; the following are examples of comments the students received: "Lots of interesting information. A baby snake sounds so independent." "Cool pictures and nice model." "Very informative! "Lovely pictures." "Cute project. Very cool." "Now I know all about orcas! Thank you for the information." "Your report was very well organized and had a lot of interesting facts." " Great job. I learned a lot."
They were happy snacking on animal crackers and a delicious chocolate animal cake! The students enjoyed being animal experts and were proud of their projects.
"WORDS FROM THE HEART"
Our first
literary anthology "Meelim Me'Halev",
"Words from the Heart" has just been
published. These poems, essays, and short
stories reflect so favorably on both our students
and their teachers. They are
the "first
fruits" of our Middle School students.
Reading through their writings is both an emotional
and uplifting experience. One has a sense
of silent self satisfaction - "these
are ours." Mazel Tov to all.
LUNCH TICKET REFUNDS
Refunds for unused lunch tickets are available between 8:00 and 12:30 next Wednesday and Thursday, June 17th and 18th.
